I grew up in the hills and bayous of East Texas. I was the oldest of five children, and we spent our days running through the woods trying not to step on rattlesnakes and eating anything that didn't eat us first! I finished school and married a man who loved gadgets and politics, so it was fun and games in the early 60's. Later, we moved to Memphis, and after he passed away I discovered the LIFE program. It's been fantastic ever since, and I've grown so much in the past two years that I can't believe it. Now I'm in the Age Stage Theatre Troupe, and of course, Senior Link. The whole thing has been empowering, enlightning, and educational.
All of this is so exciting, and there seems to be no end to it. LIFE has grown so much since I graduated in '94, and now we've got computers and are going online. Two years ago, lots of us didn't even know there was an online! As for the Senior Link Hotline, it's been a tonic for all of us. At Senior Link, we get so many calls from people who really have needs, and those are the ones that get the adrenaline flowing. It's exciting because we are seniors ourselves, so we've been there and done that, and we understand. I don't think a problem has come along that someone in this group hasn't already dealt with.
Here I've learned to never underestimate anyone, because there's a world of untouched energy in everybody.
